Outlook setup (Windows, Mac, Mobile)
Overview
This guide covers configuring Clearbox mailboxes in Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, and the Outlook mobile app. It includes automatic setup tips (Autodiscover), manual IMAP/SMTP settings, port numbers, and troubleshooting.
Recommended server settings
- IMAP (incoming):
clearbox.alfrolia.com— port 993 (SSL/TLS) - SMTP (outgoing):
clearbox.alfrolia.com— port 587 (STARTTLS) (or 465 for SMTPS) - Username: full email address
- Authentication: password or app password (OAuth is not supported). Clearbox provides built-in TLS/SSL for secure connections.
Outlook for Windows (modern versions)
- File → Add Account → Enter your email address.
- If Outlook finds your settings automatically (Autodiscover), follow the prompts and sign in with your account password when requested.
- If automatic setup fails: choose Manual setup → select IMAP and enter the server settings above.
- Test the connection and finish.
Notes for Outlook on Windows
- Autodiscover may use the domain’s DNS records; ensure your domain's DNS is pointed and verified if using Autodiscover.
- Outlook supports app passwords for accounts with 2FA; use an app password if needed.
- Check the Sent and Drafts folder mapping if messages don't appear where expected.
Outlook for Mac
- Outlook → Tools → Accounts → Add Email Account.
- Enter your email; if automatic setup fails, choose Not Exchange? then IMAP/POP and enter the settings above.
- Confirm server port settings and authentication.
Outlook mobile (iOS & Android)
- Open Outlook app → Settings → Add Account → Add Email Account.
- Enter email and choose IMAP if manual setup is needed, otherwise sign in with your account password.
- Enter server details if prompted.
Troubleshooting
- Authentication failures: try app passwords if your account uses 2FA.
- Certificate errors: check that the server hostname matches the certificate and TLS is enabled.
- Sync issues: verify connection status, and ensure mailbox sync window and folder mappings are set correctly in Outlook settings.
Advanced Outlook tips
- Use the latest Outlook version to benefit from Autodiscover improvements and general compatibility.
- When migrating from Exchange or another provider, allow Outlook to rebuild local caches (OST) after reconnecting.
